Override features

Override Consoles appear in every match. Reach one first and you can rewrite the rules for the entire server — but the exact risk depends on which type of Override you pick.

Two scopes, not one. Most Overrides affect the whole lobby the instant they're claimed, with no location reveal. Some also have a Rare/Mythic Squad version — same effect, but it only benefits your squad, and claiming it broadcasts your squad's position to everyone else for the rest of the match, shown as small whitish circles on the minimap in the top-right corner. Those are marked below. Everything else affects the whole server with no broadcast at all, contrary to how this sometimes gets summarized elsewhere.

The 27 confirmed Match Overrides

When someone reaches a console, they're offered 3 options pulled at random from this pool. Once claimed, that specific console won't activate again until the next one spawns or a new match starts.

Rows highlighted in orange have a Squad variant — claiming that version broadcasts your position, per the callout above.

20 August 2026 Documented at season launch · v42.00 The twelve Epic’s own v42.00 notes named. Six of them were vaulted overnight on August 27 and back in play a day later at a 25% reduced rate — see the un-vaulting note below. None of the twelve has ever been removed for good.
Sonic Speed Sprint speed increases over time Has Squad variant
More XP Bonus XP from eliminations, looting, and surviving Server-wide only
Loot Hack Next chest opened gives a Loot Hack item Server-wide only
Extra Life Respawn once when on the brink of elimination Has Squad variant
Big Fish Turns all fishing holes golden Server-wide only
Constant Heal Passive health/shield regen while out of combat Server-wide only
Infinite Stamina Unlimited sprint stamina Server-wide only
Headshot Increased headshot damage Server-wide only
Overshield Grants extra or new overshield Server-wide only
Speed Shooter Faster weapon fire rate and reload Has Squad variant
Big Loot Higher chance of Epic/Legendary loot from chests Server-wide only
Power Pickaxe Pickaxe hits deal massively increased damage Has Squad variant
3 September 2026 Added with the patch · v42.10 Epic’s own v42.10 patch notes, not a leak, so the effect text below is Epic’s wording. No source states a Squad variant for any of the three, so server-wide is the documented default rather than a guess.
Big Head Mode Everyone has a big head Server-wide only
Prop Hunt Crouch and don't move for several seconds to turn into a prop Server-wide only
Action Hero While mid-air, enter Hangtime when aiming weapons and deal increased damage (vaulted by Epic on October 15, see below) Server-wide only
10 September 2026 Switched on a week after the patch Epic named it in the v42.10 notes as "coming next Thursday" and it arrived on the day. @FireMonkey reported it enabled at 13:31 UTC with the effect broken into three lines, matching Epic’s own one-line description. FireMonkey, 13:31 UTC
Sharpshooter Increases weapon accuracy, reduces recoil and bloom Server-wide only
17 September 2026 Added with the patch · v42.20 Epic’s own v42.20 patch notes, so the names and effect text are Epic’s. Recovery is listed as "Squad & Match-Wide" and Level Up as "Squad" only — the dataminers’ read of Level Up (as "Thundaga") was that it does not expose your location; Epic says nothing either way, so the callout above stands until someone checks in a match. Two more, Suppressing Fire and Health Siphon, were dated by Epic to September 24 and are in the group below.
Recovery Eliminating a player with any weapon drops healing orbs Has Squad variant
Level Up Spawns a Mythic Kingdom Key for each squad member at their current location Has Squad variant
Dynamic Storm The fewer players left standing, the faster the Storm closes in (pacing slowed by Epic on September 18, see below) Server-wide only
Super Shot While firing bullets, your weapon will occasionally launch a rocket instead (vaulted by Epic on October 15, see below) Server-wide only
Big Boom Land from a height with no fall damage, dealing area-of-effect damage; the longer the drop, the bigger the explosion (vaulted by Epic on October 15, see below) Server-wide only
Healing Overdrive Healing triggers the Overdrive effect (vaulted by Epic on October 15, see below) Server-wide only
24 September 2026 Switched on a week after the patch Epic’s v42.20 notes named both as "Coming next Thursday, September 24", so the names and effect text are Epic’s. Same pattern as Sharpshooter on September 10: dated by Epic in the patch notes, added on the day. No source states a Squad variant for either, so server-wide is the documented default rather than a guess. The dataminers had called Suppressing Fire "Endless Shooter" and Health Siphon "Vampirism" before Epic named them.
Suppressing Fire All ranged weapons have increased mag size and infinite ammo Server-wide only
Health Siphon Dealing damage restores your health Server-wide only
1 October 2026 Fortnitemares · v42.30 Named in Epic’s own Fortnitemares notes, which give each one line of effect. No source states a Squad version, so server-wide is the documented default. Berserk sat on this page as a HYPEX-only name until Epic named it.
Spooky Sprinter Cloak yourself while sprinting Server-wide only
Berserk Hit harder as your health drops Server-wide only
Spooky Prop Hunt Disguise yourself as a Halloween prop Server-wide only
Un-vaulted, August 28 — confirmed directly by @FortniteStatus. Less than a day after Epic vaulted a batch of these overnight on August 27, Epic's own account posted: "Vaulted Overrides are back in play right now. All Squad-Only Overrides and the lobby-wide Fire Rate and Headshot Overrides will show up 25% less often to help balance things out. Sprite Cheat Codes (including Epics!) are also now appearing more often." That restores every Squad variant — Extra Life, Speed Shooter, Sonic Speed, and Power Pickaxe — plus the server-wide Speed Shooter and Headshot, all at a 25% reduced rate. The one holdout, per FireMonkey: the server-wide "everyone gets an Extra Life" effect stays vaulted; only its Squad-Only version came back. Epic also confirmed matches are now more likely to roll 2–3 Overrides in one game instead of just one, replacing the unconfirmed "Circle" percentage figures reported here previously.
Updated 2026-09-03, after Epic's own patch notes. The three added above — Big Head Mode, Prop Hunt, Action Hero — went live with v42.10 and now carry Epic's own effect text rather than a leaker's guess. A fourth, Sharpshooter, was Epic-confirmed for "next Thursday" in the same notes and went live on September 10, on schedule — it is in the table above with its own date. @HYPEX separately named two more for the same date, Storm Override and Hunter Scavenger (permalink), that Epic hasn't named yet — single source, so they're not in the table or the count above either. Full sourcing for all of this is on the Leaks page.

October 15: four Overrides vaulted

Epic's v42.40 notes list them under Vaulted: "Super Shot, Big Boom, Action Hero, Healing Overdrive (Overrides)". They stay in the table above, marked, because the rows were true for every patch before this one. Epic does not say whether any of them come back. Overrides have come back before: six vaulted on August 27 were back the next day.

October 2: five Overrides retuned, and Prop Hunt switched off

@FortniteStatus at 22:10 UTC (permalink): Speed Shooter's "rate of fire has been tuned for more balanced firefights", Health Siphon "now restores more health", Overshield's "max shield has been tuned", Action Hero "now has more accurate hangtime in the air", and Dynamic Storm "now closes storm circles faster". @HYPEX (permalink) and @FireMonkey (permalink) agree on two numbers: Speed Shooter 1.5x → 1.3x fire rate, and Health Siphon 10% → 30% of damage dealt. Overshield 100 → 75 and Dynamic Storm's circles shrinking up to 60% faster are FireMonkey alone. Dynamic Storm now runs the other way from Epic's September 18 change below.

Prop Hunt is off. @FireMonkey at 21:31 UTC (permalink): "The Prop Hunt Override has been vaulted"; @HYPEX three minutes later (permalink): "The Prop Hunt Match Override has been disabled". Neither says whether that is Prop Hunt or Spooky Prop Hunt, and Epic has not posted it.

October 1: three Fortnitemares Overrides, and two Epic did not name

Epic's Fortnitemares notes: "cloak yourself while sprinting with Spooky Sprinter, hit harder as your health drops with Berserk, or disguise yourself as a Halloween prop with Spooky Prop Hunt." Those three are in the table above. The notes go on: "Others let you trade shields for extra health, fire pumpkin rockets while shooting weapons". Those two have no names in Epic's text, so they stay out of the table until they do.

September 18: Epic slowed Dynamic Storm

@FortniteStatus, 21:27 UTC (permalink): "We've heard your feedback that the Dynamic Storm Override could be tough to outrun, so we've slowed its pacing with fewer players remaining in the match." Epic's own words, so the table row above carries the note. The old row was right about the build up to the 18th: the Storm still closes faster as players drop out, it just does so less sharply now.

The only numbers are @HYPEX's, ten minutes later (permalink, 21:37 UTC), one source: "Time before storm shrinks → 1.2–6.7x longer", "Time to reach next circle → 1.3–6.7x longer", "Biggest slowdown is in the final phases". Epic gave no figures, so those are his and stay in this paragraph rather than in the table.

v42.20 is live: six in the table, and the last two landed September 24

The patch landed at downtime on September 17 and Epic's own notes (v42.20 Battle Royale Update Notes) name six new Match Overrides, now in the table above with Epic's wording. The dataminers' names from the day before map onto Epic's like this: Prize Plus is Recovery, Thundaga is Level Up, and Big Boom and Super Shot kept their names. Two that HYPEX had alone, Healing Overdrive and Dynamic Storm, are Epic-named now too, so they moved from a sentence into the table.

Both landed on September 24. Epic's notes had said "Coming next Thursday, September 24": Suppressing Fire ("All ranged weapons have increased mag size and infinite ammo" — the dataminers' Endless Shooter) and Health Siphon ("Dealing damage restores your health"). Both are in the table above now, added on Epic's own date. Third Party and Berserk are still HYPEX-only and still unnamed by Epic.

The day before: six read out of the Xbox build

Epic pushed the v42.20 build to Xbox a day early on September 16, and two dataminers read the same six new Match Overrides out of it: @FireMonkey with the in-game text (permalink, 16:23 UTC) and @HYPEX with numbers (permalink, 16:51 UTC). @ShiinaBR has the Persona one separately (permalink, 15:42 UTC). Two named sources on all six, so they were verified a day before Epic named them; kept here because the numbers are still the only numbers anyone has. FireMonkey's text first, HYPEX's numbers after:

  • Big Boom — "Take no fall damage and create an explosion on landing after falling for a time that increases in damage the longer you fall." HYPEX: up to 150 damage.
  • Prize Plus (Kingdom Hearts) — "All eliminations spawn HP Orbs." HYPEX: 2 HP orbs per elimination.
  • Thundaga (Kingdom Hearts) — "(Squad) Only Affects your Squad, but doesn't expose your location. Gain the Mythic Kingdom Key." The first Squad override either source has described as not broadcasting position; every Squad row above does.
  • Super Shot (Cyberpunk) — "After firing some ammo, fire a ROCKET!" HYPEX: an extra rocket after every 15 ammo consumed.
  • Health Siphon (Persona 5) — "Dealing damage restores Health." HYPEX: 10% of damage dealt to players, Health only, no elimination needed (permalink, 16:42 UTC). FireMonkey calls it "Vampirism" in a second post.
  • Endless Shooter (Cyberpunk) — "Increased Magazine Size and infinite ammo for all ranged weapons." HYPEX: double magazine sizes.

HYPEX names four more in the same post that FireMonkey does not — Third Party (marks up to 3 recent enemy elimination locations for 10 seconds), Berserk (more damage as Health drops, up to +30% at 25 HP), Healing Overdrive (12 seconds of Overdrive after healing) and Dynamic Storm (the Storm closes faster with fewer players left). One source each, so they sit here in a sentence and not in the list. Storm Override and Hunter Scavenger from September 3 are still HYPEX-only too, and still unnamed by Epic.

What I couldn't confirm

A few things aren't documented anywhere, including Epic's own patch notes — I'm not guessing at them: exactly how many consoles spawn per match, and how long an active modifier's effect actually lasts. What is confirmed: once a console's event triggers, its location is marked for the entire lobby at the same moment — it's a race against the whole server, not a hidden pickup.

Some community guides list a much larger pool of 40+ named effects under the term "Cartridge Hacks." I can't verify the full 40+ list against Epic's own patch notes, which name only the 27 above — but the term itself is now corroborated: FireMonkey's vaulting post above uses "Cartridge Hacks" directly, so the broader pool is real, even if its full contents still aren't independently confirmed.
