Guide — updated as the season goes

Guides & sprites

"Override" is 2 days old as of this writing. The core systems below are confirmed, but a lot of the finer detail — exact leveling numbers, full drop-rate maps — genuinely isn't documented anywhere yet, including by Epic. I'm not filling those gaps with guesses; where the community doesn't know yet, I say so.

New this patch

What changed this season, newest first (v42.40 landed October 15), so a returning player can see it without scrolling. If you are new to sprites, skip to How sprites work below — none of this makes sense without it.

October 15: Honey, One Wish Willow, and a seventh tier, Quack

Epic's v42.40 notes, the last update of the season, add two sprites. Honey (epic), the last Design-a-Sprite winner: "Chance to spawn bees at the hit location upon dealing damage with a ranged weapon." One Wish Willow (mythic), from the Obsession collab: "Extract enemies' equipped Sprites upon elimination and push nearby enemies away when damaged. You'll be marked on the map if you remove it, so be careful!" The in-game text puts that last part as "Gets upset when removed and marks you on the map". So once it is equipped, taking it off gives away where you are.

Both are on the tracker with six tiles each: Base, Gold, Cheat Master, Loot Hacker, Bounty Hunter and Trick or Treat. Rarity and tiers come from our own export of the v42.40 files; Epic's notes give neither.

Quack, from the last Sprite Mastery page. Epic: "The final page of Sprite Mastery rewards is now available, including new Quack Sprites and a new Style for the Pixel Polli Outfit! Quack Sprite boosts every Sprite you're carrying with an extra Sprite XP whenever it gains XP." So a Quack Sprite helps the rest of your loadout level up while it levels itself. Epic does not say which sprites get it. The files do: Bush, Adventure, Jonesy, Klombo and Spooky Dash, and nobody else. Those five Quack tiles are on the tracker, which now counts 162 entries. How many masteries the page needs is one dataminer's number so far, and it is on the Leaks page.

The Sprite Loot Hack now covers every tier. Epic lists "All Sprite Variants" among the new Loot Hacks. @HYPEX at 09:33 UTC (permalink) reads it as: "The Sprite Loot Hack can now drop every variant (Gold, Cheat Master, Bounty Hunter & Trick or Treat), not only Loot Hacker ones". Epic's own words stop at "All Sprite Variants".

Free sprites in the new Sprite Spree quests, from one source. @FireMonkey at 09:06 UTC (permalink): "New Sprite Spree Spritemares Quests: Free Sprites: Crown Sprite, Spooky Dash Sprite, Gold Spooky Dash Sprite, Klombo Sprite, Trick or Treat Klombo Sprite". He does not list the quest steps, and nobody else has posted it yet. All five are already tiles on the tracker, so this is another way to get them, not new ones.

A sixth tier: Trick or Treat — live October 8

Epic's in-game text on October 8, as @FireMonkey posted it at 13:00 UTC (permalink): "New Sprites Have Arrived. Trick or Treat Sprite Variants Are Here. Time to get scary! Trick or Treat Sprite variants have entered the loot pool, with better odds of finding them today." Within the hour players were posting Birthday, Dumpster Dive, Shadow and Jonesy ones from their own matches.

Every sprite but Mega Man now shows a sixth tile on the tracker. That reach comes from the files rather than from Epic: the October 2 export has a finished Variant_TrickTreat definition, art included, for every sprite except Mega Man, and Epic's text names no exceptions. Crown's tile has been out since October 1, for mastering Bounty Hunter Crown; the other 23 joined it today, and the tracker went from 122 entries to 145. "Better odds today" is Epic's phrase, and it gives no number.

What the variant does is still FireMonkey's word from September 17: Trick or Treat "will give you a chance to find Candy when opening containers". Epic's text today does not say.

A fifth tier: Bounty Hunter — live September 24, Crown's came early

Live as of September 24. Epic switched the tier on. Every released sprite with variants now shows its fifth tile on the tracker — the seventeen that sat at four tiers each, alongside Crown's, which arrived a week early. Mega Man, base-only, stays at one.

Epic's v42.20 notes (Battle Royale Update Notes): "And next Thursday, September 24, Bounty Hunter Sprite variants join the fray… These combat-hungry Sprites have a chance to appear when you eliminate opponents, leveling up only from eliminations." That is the tier @FireMonkey read out of the Xbox build the day before as "Reaper", with the text "Chance to find sprites when eliminating opponents. Only gains sprite XP from eliminations, unless sprite has special XP rules" — the same mechanic, in Epic's words now.

One of them is obtainable a week early. @FortniteStatus on patch day, 14:53 UTC: "You can now equip and master the Bounty Hunter Crown Sprite, but we'll be enabling the variant's power at the intended release date next Thursday, September 24" (permalink). It is granted on completing Loot Hacker Crown mastery — the earlier post in the same thread names "the Bounty Hunter Sprite not being granted after completing the Loot Hacker Crown Sprite Mastery" as the bug they fixed (permalink, 13:31 UTC). So Crown showed a fifth tile on the tracker a week early; every other sprite with variants joined it on the 24th.

What the files say, self-mined on patch day. Every sprite except Mega Man has a Variant_Reaper definition named "Bounty Hunter … Sprite" with finished art — twenty tiles, in the same magenta-violet swirl. They are extracted and uploaded, and the tracker gained the released sprites' tiles on September 24, when Epic switched the tier on. Mega Man has no Reaper definition at all, and his Gold, Cheat Master and Loot Hacker definitions, new this patch, still have black silhouettes for art, so he stays at one tile.

Cheat Codes drop differently now — Epic, September 17

From the same notes, under "Cheat Code Rarity Update": "Sprites of any rarity can now be found in any Rare (blue) or Epic (purple) Cheat Code. Epic Cheat Codes have significantly increased chances of variants and higher-rarity Sprites. Legendary (orange) Cheat Codes are guaranteed to drop a variant Sprite, with an emphasis on higher-rarity ones." And a pity system: "the longer you go without finding a new Sprite, the better your chances of getting a variant you don't already own." @HYPEX had described that the night before as "bad-luck protection" that makes Rare-to-Legendary walls give "a Gold, Cheat Master or Loot Hacker Sprite (can change)" (permalink, 22:14 UTC). Epic's version is the one to plan around: the tier of the wall no longer caps the rarity, and orange walls always give a variant.

It was broken for the first six hours. FireMonkey at 10:09 UTC: "Epic Games broke Cheat Codes this update, as they have a chance to give you nothing now" (permalink), and his read of why: Storm Scout, Morgana, Birthday and every Reaper variant were vaulted, so a wall that rolled one gave nothing (permalink, 11:24 UTC). Epic confirmed the bug and the fix without the diagnosis: "We've fixed issues with Cheat Codes not dropping Sprites" at 14:53 UTC (permalink above). FireMonkey reported Storm Scout unvaulted at 13:13 UTC (permalink). The vault list is his alone; the fix is Epic's.

Two smaller things from the notes: the Adventure Sprite "no longer swaps your equipped item when your inventory is full", and other players' Sprites can no longer be seen through walls. And one from FireMonkey alone: "You can now upgrade your loot hacks in game" (permalink, 10:00 UTC), with nothing on how. One source, so it is a sentence here and not a section.

Sonic Race Rift Anomaly: a race that pays a Sprite

@HYPEX the night before the patch, one source (permalink, 22:55 UTC): a rift anomaly where you "race through rings before the 3min timer", on three track layouts, and "completing a race rewards a power-up, a Sprite & a weapon". His Sprite odds, as posted: "Sonic, Tails or Shadow (equal chances)" and "Regular 82%, Gold 9%, Cheat Master 9%". The power-up is "75% chance for a 1-Up Token, 25% for a God Mode Llama"; the weapon "a Legendary or Exotic". Epic's notes do not mention it. If the odds hold up in play they are the first stated variant odds for any source of Sprites this season; until then they are his.

Loot Hacker variants — live since September 10

A fourth variant tier arrived with the September 3 patch, ranking above Cheat Master. @FNBRintel reported it at 08:16 UTC — “New 'Loot Hacker' Variants for sprites has been added!” (permalink) — and @FireMonkey gave the first unlock route ten minutes later, independently: “If you've already mastered the Gold Crown Sprite, you have the Loot Hacker Sprite available now!” (permalink). Two named sources, so the tier is real. What it actually did went unanswered for a week — that part is now known, and is the next two paragraphs.

Three specific ones are named so far — Loot Hacker Jonesy, Loot Hacker Adventure, and a Cheat Master Onigiri — each with a Lobby Hack code to come (permalink). The codes have not been posted, so they are not on the Cheat codes page either. Update, September 13: every released sprite now shows a fourth tile on the tracker. It was only Jonesy and Adventure until Epic enabled the variant across the board on September 10, so the tracker went from 50 entries to 64 — and then to 61 on September 13, when Mega Man was cut to a single tile. The game defines no Gold, Cheat Master or Loot Hacker for him at all, so tracking three tiles nobody can obtain was making everyone's collection look smaller than it was. Storm Scout and Crown are still in the count even though the Loot Hack cannot roll them from a chest — Crown is win-only, and the other two are not in the chest pool. There is no extracted art for the tier yet, so the new tiles are placeholders.

Two more variants moved the same morning, both from FireMonkey alone: Trick or Treat “will give you a chance to find Candy when opening containers” (permalink) — the first of the five variants named back in August to get a stated effect — and a Hacker variant was added with no effect text at all (permalink). One source each, so both are his word rather than confirmed.

Sprite Mastery has returned with the same patch (permalink). His post continues “'Par' will be available in” and stops there against an image, so what Par is cannot be quoted here yet.

They went live on September 10, and they boost your Loot Hack odds by 20%. Four named sources inside half an hour: @ShiinaBR at 13:05 UTC (permalink), @HYPEX at 13:24 with the number — "LOOT HACKER SPRITES ARE OUT NOW – They boost your Loot Hacks chances by +20%" (permalink) — and @FireMonkey at 13:32 confirming all of them were enabled at once (permalink). HYPEX had pre-announced both the date and the multiplier four days earlier, as "1.2x (+20%)" (permalink, September 6), and the release matched what he said.

There is also a Loot Hack that spawns them, and the two stack. HYPEX posted the full breakdown on September 5, before release (permalink): the Loot Hack rolls a random Loot Hacker Sprite out of chests at 5%, 7%, 9%, 11%, 13% and 15% across its six levels, costing 500, 1k, 2k, 4k, 7k and 12k. Because the Sprite itself multiplies Loot Hack chances by 1.2x, his worked example is 15% becoming 18%. Which sprite you get is weighted:

  • 11% — Bushranger, Adventure, Jonesy, 8-Bit, Onigiri
  • 8% — Sonic, Tails, Shadow, Overshield
  • 4.5% — Killswitch, Jackrabbit, X-Ray
  • Klombo — 0.001% per HYPEX, 0.0011% per FireMonkey. Both are quoted as posted; neither has explained the difference, and at that size it does not change your evening either way.

@FireMonkey published the same four tiers in the same order on September 10 (permalink), as a correction to his own earlier reading — he had said the Loot Hack did not make Loot Hacker Sprites more common, and posted "Quick Correction … It DOES" once HYPEX pushed back. Two named sources arriving at the same weighting from different directions is the strongest this page gets short of Epic saying it. One naming wrinkle worth knowing: FireMonkey writes "Bush Ranger" and "Jazz Jackrabbit" where HYPEX writes "Bushranger" and "Jackrabbit". This site uses Bush and Jackrabbit, the in-game names, and has not renamed anything on the strength of one leaker’s shorthand.

Power Hours

A recurring weekend event that raises sprite drop rates for a couple of hours at a time. This page left it alone for three weeks because one event is not a pattern. It has now run twice with a pre-announced schedule, so it is a mechanic worth planning around rather than a one-off.

The September 12 one boosted Gold and Cheat Master sprites. @FireMonkey posted Epic’s own in-game text the day before: "Get ready to power up with Supercharged Overdrive Grenades and more Gold and Cheat Master Sprites! Live September 12 at 2 PM ET and 9 PM ET." (permalink, 13:54 UTC). @ShiinaBR had it on his week roadmap six days earlier as "Power Hours (Boosted Gold & Cheat Sprites)" (permalink). FireMonkey then confirmed it live at 18:00 UTC on the day (permalink).

Two windows a day, not one. Both the September 12 event and the Sonic Power Hour before it ran at 2 PM ET and 9 PM ET. Shiina described the August one as running "for 2 hours each" — that duration has only ever been stated for the Sonic event, so treat two hours as the shape of the thing rather than a guaranteed length.

The in-game text lied on the first one, so read the buff and not the banner. FireMonkey, ten minutes into the September 12 event: "The Power Hour is currently showing the wrong text, as it appears Epic Games either activated the incorrect power hour or didn’t properly hotfix the text" (permalink). Two minutes later: "Looks like the right power hour is active, just the wrong text" (permalink). So the event worked; the label did not. Epic has never posted about Power Hours on @FortniteStatus at all, which is why every line above is a dataminer’s.

The first one Epic announced itself: Kingdom Hearts, Saturday September 19. From the v42.20 notes (Battle Royale Update Notes): 2 PM–4 PM ET and again 9 PM–11 PM ET (6–8 PM UTC, then 1–3 AM UTC Sunday), "everyone drops in with the Kingdom Key and a Sea Salt Ice Cream", "Hacker Sprite variants appear more often", and "1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors may drop from Chests". Two-hour windows, stated by Epic this time, which settles the duration question above for this one at least. "Hacker" is Epic's own shorthand here; the tracker's tier is Loot Hacker.

Bounty Hunter Sprites, Saturday October 3. Epic's in-game text, posted by @FireMonkey at 08:04 UTC on October 1 (permalink): "Aim once, hit twice. This Saturday, October 3, everyone drops in with the Dual Fiend Hunters", "Bounty Hunter Sprites appear more often - eliminate opponents to level them up", and "1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors may drop from Chests". Two rounds, starting 2 PM ET (6 PM UTC) and 9 PM ET (1 AM UTC Sunday), the same slots as every one before it. The text gives no end times. Epic's v42.30 Fortnitemares notes carry the same text, so it is Epic's now. It ran on the day: @FireMonkey posted Epic's "Power Hours Live Now / Boosted Bounty Hunter Sprites" text at 18:00 UTC on October 3 (permalink).

Spooky Dash Sprites, Saturday October 10. Epic's in-game text, posted by @FireMonkey at 18:03 UTC on October 8 (permalink): "This Saturday, October 10, the Island's eeriest Sprites are haunting the map in bigger numbers, with extra Pumpkin Chests popping up", "Everyone drops in with a Witch Broom", "The Deer, Vampire and Spooky Dash Sprites appear more often", and "1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors may drop from Chests". Two rounds, starting 2 PM ET (6 PM UTC) and 9 PM ET (1 AM UTC Sunday), the same slots again. No end times in the text.

Trick or Treat Sprites, Saturday October 17. From Epic's v42.40 notes: "The hunt is on this Saturday, October 17 - everyone's dropping in with an enhanced Freddy's Nightmare in hand", "Trick or Treat Sprite variant appears more often", and "1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors may drop from Chests". Two rounds, starting 2 PM ET (6 PM UTC) and 9 PM ET (1 AM UTC Sunday). Freddy's Nightmare makes you "move faster while equipped". No end times in the text.

What the first one gave, back on August 29, was different: Storm Scout’s debut, plus boosted Sonic, Tails and Shadow drops and more Portable Extractors and 1-Up Tokens from chests. The contents change every time. The 2 PM / 9 PM ET slots are the part that has held.

A free sidekick for one Dumpster Dive extraction

Extract a Dumpster Dive Sprite once and a quest completes that gives you the Jimothy sidekick for free. Three of the five posted it within half an hour on October 1: @ShiinaBR at 10:58 UTC (permalink), @FireMonkey at 10:59 (permalink), who calls the quest "Extract a lil guy", and @HYPEX at 11:24 (permalink), who calls it "Extract a silly little guy". The quest name differs between them; the reward does not.

October 2: Epic buffs five sprites

@FortniteStatus at 22:10 UTC (permalink): "Klombo Sprite now levels up faster", "Birthday Sprite now has a higher chance of spawning cakes", "Killswitch Sprite now has more accurate hangtime in the air", "Crash Bandicoot Sprite now deals more spin damage and knocks back farther" and "Pond Sprite now jumps higher".

The numbers, where two sources agree. @HYPEX (permalink) and @FireMonkey (permalink) both give Klombo 4 → 8 Sprite XP per point healed, Birthday's cake chance 50-80% → 75-90% from level 1 to 4 (level 5 stays at 100%), Crash's building damage 5-15 → 10-25 and its knockback +114%, and Pond's jump distance up 11-55%, most at the low levels. They differ on Crash's level 1 damage to players: HYPEX writes 5-10 → 8-15, FireMonkey has level 1 unchanged at 5 and the rest going to 8, 10, 12 and 15. Killswitch, in HYPEX's words: "AR & SMG: 40-60% → 50-70%", "Shotgun & Pistol: 30-50% → 40-60%" extra spread reduction in the air.

v42.30 sprite tuning, from one source

@HYPEX at 13:23 UTC on October 1 (permalink), with the ranges running from level 1 to level 5. Buffs: "Crash: Cooldown 12-5s → 6-2s", "Pond: Charge delay 20-12s → 12-8s", "Killswitch: Better accuracy in Hangtime", "Shadow: Reload interval 2.5-1.15s → 2-1.1s", "Jonesy: Regen 30-50% → 35-60%", and "Klombo: Extra item on consume is back (12-20%)". One nerf: "Mega Man: Slides are less slippery". Epic's notes for the update list no sprite changes and nobody else has posted these, so they are his numbers, not the tracker's.

Mastery Monday: a 24-hour boost every Monday

Monday September 21, from about 13:00 UTC, three named accounts outside this site's usual five posted the same event within fourteen minutes: @FNBRunderground (permalink, 13:02 UTC), @MySpritesme (13:08) and @FN_Assist (permalink, 13:16). They agree on the shape: Cheat Code spawns boosted, Sprite XP doubled, and three extra Portable Extractors for playing, live for 24 hours. FN_Assist calls it "Mastery Monday #5", so it has run on Mondays since late August without HYPEX, FireMonkey, Shiina, FNBRintel or Epic posting it once, which is why it is only appearing here now.

The numbers are one source. FN_Assist alone: Sprite XP for eliminations 300 → 400, assists 75 → 150, extractions 100 → 200, opening containers up from 75. Nobody else states figures, so they are his and stay in this paragraph. If Mondays keep doing this, the Monday is the day to level a sprite you are stuck on.

Mastery Monday #6, September 28, adds double Sprite Dust and a code. @panuneko (permalink, 14:45 UTC), @FN_Assist (permalink, 14:51 UTC) and @MisterPavaoFN (permalink, 15:25 UTC) give last week's shape plus two things: double Sprite Dust, and the Lobby Hack BoneRattler for four Spicy Tacos, which is on the Cheat codes page. FN_Assist's XP figures are last week's again, and he adds players downed 100 → 150 and duplicate extractions 200 → 400. Those are still his alone.

Mastery Monday #7, October 5: Epic's own words this time. @FireMonkey posted the event's in-game text at 16:18 UTC (permalink): "Mastery Monday Live Now / Boosted Cheat Codes, More Rewards!", with "Double Sprite XP, double Sprite Dust, and a new Lobby Hack: VeryScaryPumpkin unlocks 3 Junk Food Buckets". So the name is Epic's, and it is the first Mastery Monday one of the five has posted. @panuneko (permalink, 16:55 UTC) adds three Portable Extractors as the daily quest reward. The code is on the Cheat codes page.

Mastery Monday #8, October 12: the same boost, a Halloween code. @FireMonkey posted the in-game text at 13:38 UTC (permalink): "Mastery Monday Live Now / Boosted Cheat Codes, More Sprites!", with "Trick or treat! Double Sprite XP, double Sprite Dust, and a new Lobby Hack: Door2Door4Candy". Epic's text names no reward this time; the echoes all say two Extraction Accelerators. The code is on the Cheat codes page.

How sprites work

The mechanics themselves, in the order you meet them. These hold until Epic changes them, and where Epic already has, the callout says so and gives the date.

Starter Sprite

The first time you load into Override, you pick one free Sprite to start your collection: Adventure, Bush, or Jonesy. It's added instantly in its base form — the other two are still obtainable normally afterward.

How to unlock each sprite

Sprite Chests are gone this season, replaced by Cheat Code Chests — glowing wall/floor consoles you find by ear (a chime, or a blue glow with Visualize Sound Effects on) and solve with a directional input sequence. Panel color sets the tier: blue = Rare, purple = Epic, gold = Legendary. Gold panels don't spawn in fixed spots like the other two — they're only revealed with a Cheat Code Locator, and even then only a small chance of one showing up. Full code list and the console mechanic itself are on the Cheat codes page.

Leveling sprites

Most sprites level up through ordinary play once equipped — no special trigger needed. Two Mythics are the exception, called out by name in Epic's own patch notes: Klombo only levels from using Health/Shield consumable items, and Crown only levels by winning matches — it doesn't level in bot lobbies, only real Battle Royale or Zero Build matches count.

Duplicate Sprites now give XP, and auto-master at max level — Epic, September 4. @FortniteStatus posted it directly: "Duplicate Sprites now level up your collection! When you extract a Sprite you already have a copy of, it will give Sprite XP to the one in your collection. Once it's maxed, drop in and extract your Sprite to master it." (permalink, 15:46 UTC). @HYPEX and @ShiinaBR both confirmed within the same ten minutes.
Resummon cost halved on mastery, per Epic's v42.10 notes. Once a Sprite is mastered, the Sprite Dust cost to resummon it if you lose it is reduced by half. A new Sprite Mastery Track was also added, granting further rewards and Gizmos for mastering Sprites — see the Leaks page for the rest of what changed in that patch.
Klombo: when it hits Level 5, it self-extracts. Confirmed firsthand — once Klombo hits max level, it's added to your collection automatically, no need to reach an Extraction Site or use a Gizmo. It also stays at Level 5 in your inventory afterward. Adventure does the same thing at its own Level 5 — also confirmed firsthand.
Crown to Cheat Master: one win, as of Epic's August 27 change. The in-game description says it too now, on every Crown variant: "Only levels up by winning matches while equipped. Mastery with 1 win. New variants unlocked after mastering!" No Crown Win, no Victory Crown needed.

Epic's own @FortniteStatus account posted it directly: "Mastering a Crown Sprite has been adjusted. One Victory Royale with a Crown Sprite now fully masters it and grants the next variant." So a single win with the Crown Sprite equipped now takes it to Level 5 and unlocks the Cheat Master variant.

This replaces the win-twice route this page carried until now: first win adds Crown and grants a Victory Crown to wear, second win while still holding that Victory Crown jumps it to Level 5. That was confirmed firsthand and was correct before August 27 — Epic removed the second step, it was not wrong. Noting the history because this page rejected the same claim on August 28 when it came from two weak secondhand sources while Epic's patch article said nothing; what changed is that Epic has now said it in their own words.
Cheat Master → Gold: one more win. The Cheat Master Crown Sprite has its own level track, separate from the one that got you there — mastering it turns it Gold, and per the in-game text that takes one more win with it equipped. Unlike every other sprite's Gold variant, Crown's can't be obtained from any Cheat Code — it's win-only, which makes it the most demanding Gold sprite to earn this season.
The Adventure → Crown trick — patched, no longer works (Epic hotfix, August 25). Adventure's ability used to upgrade a random item in your inventory each time it leveled up, and players found that carrying Crown with nothing else upgradable in your inventory let it target Crown instead of a weapon or consumable — a slower workaround for anyone who couldn't win two matches in a row. Epic hotfixed this: Adventure can no longer level up other Sprites at all (it also lost the ability to upgrade Small/Big Shield into a Flowberry Fizz or Chug Jug). Use the one-win method above instead.

What actually gets better when a Sprite levels up

Every Sprite says "Level Up!" on its card, but the game does not tell you in one place what the levels are doing. This list does. It is taken from each Sprite's own in-game item description, self-mined from the files on September 13 — not from a leaker, and not from guessing at numbers nobody has published.

Note what is not here: actual figures. Epic states the direction ("faster", "farther", "larger radius") and not the amount. Anyone giving you per-level percentages for these is either measuring privately or making it up.

SpriteWhat improves per Level
Bush time between Bush activations decreases with each Level Up.
Jonesy the amount healed increases with each Level Up.
Shadow the automatic reload gets faster with each Level Up, and at max Level it also reloads your equipped weapon.
Sonic sprint speed increases with each Level Up.
Tails hover speed increases with each Level Up.
Killswitch accuracy increases with each Level Up.
Jackrabbit the cooldown between jumps decreases with each Level Up.
Crown mastering it unlocks new variants.
Storm Scout Overdrive lasts longer with each Level Up.
Klombo item quality increases with each Level Up.
X-Ray marks happen more often and cover a larger radius with each Level Up.
Onigiri Overdrive lasts longer with each Level Up.
Mega Man you slide farther with each Level Up.
Overshield the Overshield granted scales with Level.
Pond Super Jump strength increases and cooldown decreases with each Level Up.
Crash Bandicoot damage increases and cooldown decreases with each Level Up.
Blinky cloak duration increases with each Level Up.
Morgana healing effectiveness increases with each Level Up.
Birthday the chance to spawn cake increases with each Level Up.
Spooky Dash an active, triggered by jumping in the air, that lets you phase through some objects. The charge cooldown decreases with each Level Up.
Vampire the percent of health recovered increases with each Level Up.
The Deer melee damage increases with each Level Up.
Dumpster Dive food turns up when jumping out of hiding props, with a small chance when opening containers, and the food gets better with each Level Up.

8-Bit is the only released Sprite with nothing here. Its description states no per-level effect at all — it finds you a shotgun in your first chest and multiplies your score for it, and that is the whole of it. That is an honest blank, not a gap in this page.

Cheat Master variants

A new variant tier this season, obtained only through specific Lobby Hack codes (see Cheat codes) — never through normal looting. Equip one and Cheat Code Chest panels stop checking your input sequence entirely; mash any buttons and it still pays out a Sprite.

Secret Temple Vaults

Two confirmed vaults this season, both reward Cheat Codes on top of their own loot — a reliable way to bank extra Sprite pulls in one spot without relying on random field finds.

  • Stone Sanctum — needs two Temple Vault Keys, found by breaking the small stone pillars on the POI's rooftops. Both keys open a central chamber with rare loot and Cheat Codes.
  • Mega Maze — needs one Temple Vault Key. An invisible container moves through the maze; destroy it to drop the key, then use it on the pedestal on the maze's western side.

Sprite Garden & extraction

A Sprite only counts toward your permanent collection once extracted — deposit it at an Extraction Site, use a Portable Extractor Gizmo, or just win the match (auto-extracts everything you're carrying). The new Extraction Accelerator consumable instantly triggers a nearby Extraction Site.

Extracted sprites live in the Sprite Garden, a no-combat social hub — wander it, display sprites on pedestals, visit friends. Reach it from the lobby Discovery menu or directly by Island Code 4220-9404-7987. Season 3's sprites carry over here as a cosmetic display only; they're not obtainable from Season 4 loot at all — the pool reset completely.

Sprite Garden quality-of-life update, August 28 — per FireMonkey, linking Epic's own community post. New art in the Sprite Haven space; your Achievements and Quests are now represented in the world (check the player house); the Earth Sprite atop your player base's mountain "now does something"; a new lever next to each building lets you remove and rotate it; the mobile HUD was cleaned up; player islands got visual polish, especially the sides and back; assorted Sprite placement/UI/controls/audio bugs fixed; performance optimized across platforms. No gameplay-rule changes — this is the social hub itself, not the collection mechanics above.

Sprite Dust (earned by catching new sprites) spends on Loot Hacks and on radar-marking nearby sprites at Extraction Sites. Confirmed by Epic: Sprite Dust and Gizmos both reset at season's end, so there's no reason to hoard either.

Sprite Dust cap confirmed at 200,000 — Epic's own patch notes, August 26. In Epic's own words: "Sprite Dust cap has been returned to 200,000!" — a 10x jump from the season's 20,000 starting cap. HYPEX reported the same number a day earlier; it's now confirmed directly in Epic's own article rather than resting on a leaker account alone.
Also confirmed in the same patch (Epic, August 26): summoning costs less now. Summoning rare Sprites and their variants now costs less Sprite Dust than before, and the button-hold time needed to summon a Sprite has been shortened. Epic didn't publish exact numbers for either change.

Worth knowing

  • New sprites tend to land on a weekly Sprite Day (historically Thursdays). Check Leaks for what's confirmed-but-not-live yet.
  • The Sonic Battle Pass unlocks the Sonic skin and Tails Sidekick — it does not hand you the Sonic/Tails Sprites for free, those are still earned in-match like any other.
  • See Override features for the separate Match Override Console modifier system.

What I don't know yet

Exact XP thresholds for standard leveling, the full Cheat Code Chest spawn map and whether rarity is truly random or POI-weighted, and release timing for the five community-designed mid-season sprites. I'll update this page as the season fills these in — not before.
